Sensex ends down 100pts; Ranbaxy zooms 15%
The Sensex opened 65 points higher at 12,741. Fresh buying in early trades saw the index move up to a high of 12,935. The index, however, could not hold gains and slipped into the negative zone in mid-noon trades.
The index dropped to a fresh yearly low of 12,514 - down 421 points from the day's high. The Sensex finally ended with a loss of 100 at 12,576.
In the process, the index has now shed nearly 10% (1,388 points) the last five trading days.
The market breadth was negative - out of 2,692 stocks traded, 1,801 declined, 812 advanced and 79 were unchanged today.
The NSE Nifty slipped 44 points to end at 3,817.
INDEX MOVERS...
Ranbaxy zoomed 15% to Rs 471.
Bharti Airtel surged nearly 3% to Rs 730. ONGC gained 2.5% at Rs 866.
Hindustan Unilever moved up 1.8% to Rs 215. Ambuja Cements and ITC added 1.3% each to Rs 81 and Rs 162, respectively.
...AND THE SHAKERS
DLF plunged 7.7% to Rs 394. Jaiprakash Associates slumped 6% to Rs 137.
Mahindra & Mahindra tumbled 5.5% to Rs 494. HDFC shed 4.5% at Rs 1,721.
SBI and Tata Steel dropped 3.3% each to Rs 1,139 and Rs 626, respectively.
TCS slipped 3% to Rs 727. ACC and Tata Motors declined over 2% each to Rs 514 and Rs 395, respectively.
ICICI Bank, Wipro and Reliance Communications were down 1.7% each at Rs 520, Rs 371 and Rs 399, respectively.
Reliance and HDFC Bank dropped arond 1.5% each at Rs 1,945 and Rs 904, respectively.
VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS
Ranbaxy topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 319.30 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 309.30 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 292.65 crore), Reliance Petroleum (Rs 282 crore) and Reliance Infrastructure (Rs 114 crore).
Reliance Petroleum led the volume chart with trades of around 1.81 crore shares followed by Reliance Natural Resources (1.75 crore), IFCI (1.35 crore), Ispat Industries (1.29 crore) and Chambal Fertilisers (1 crore). |

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 334 points at 12,910 on the back of bullish cues from the global markets. The index retreated a bit to a low of 12,844, but soon bounced back to higher levels on the back of renewed buying interest in beaten down stocks.
The index rallied to a high of 13,150, and finally ended with a gain of 536 points at 13,112.
The market breadth was fairly positive - out of 2,689 stocks traded, 1,529 advanced, 1,088 declined and 72 were unchanged today.
The NSE Nifty surged 130 points to settle at 3,947.
INDEX MOVERS...
HDFC zoomed 9.8% to Rs 1,889. Maruti soared 9.5% to Rs 600.
Jaiprakash Associates surged over 9% to Rs 149. DLF gained 8.5% at Rs 427.
SBI rallied 7.8% to Rs 1,227, and Larsen & Toubro moved up 7.5% to Rs 2,440.
TCS surged over 7% to Rs 779. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank rallied 6% each to Rs 551 and Rs 958, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructure moved up 5.4% to Rs 807. BHEL and Satyam added 5% each to Rs 1,453 and Rs 414, respectively.
ACC and Reliance Communications gained 4.7% each at Rs 539 and Rs 418, respectively. ONGC added 4.3% to Rs 904.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors advanced over 4% each to Rs 514 and Rs 412, respectively.
Reliance moved up 3.6% to Rs 2,016. ITC was up over 3% at Rs 167, and Bharti Airtel added 2.5% to Rs 749.
Wipro, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever and Hindalco were up around 2% each at Rs 380, Rs 1,583, Rs 220 and Rs 140, respectively.

Ranbaxy shed 4% at Rs 452. Tata Steel dropped 3% to Rs 607.
VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS
Ranbaxy topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 316.55 crore followed by Reliance Petroleum (Rs 289.50 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 243.354 crore), Reliance (Rs 221.50 crore) and Larsen & Toubro (Rs 176.70 crore).
Reliance Petroleum led the volume chart with trades of around 1.92 crore shares followed by Reliance Natural Resources (1.56 crore), IFCI (1.45 crore), Ispat Industries (1.05 crore) and Chambal Fertilisers (89.55 lakh). |

Following UPA government's win in the Parliament yesterday, the Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 482 points at 14,586. Unabated buying in financial and capital goods stocks saw the index rally to higher levels as the day progressed.
The Sensex touched a high of 14,980, and finally settled with a gain of 838 points at 14,942. In the process the index has gained a whopping 18.8% (2,366 points) in the last five trading days.

Reliance Communications zoomed over 12% to Rs 525. ICICI Bank soared 11.6% to Rs 738.
BHEL and HDFC surged 11% each to Rs 1,772 and Rs 2,380, respectively.
SBI ad Reliance Infrastructure rallied 10.5% each to Rs 1,544 and Rs 1,015, respectively. HDFC Bank gained 9.5% at Rs 1,206.
DLF soared over 9% to Rs 496. Jaiprakash Associates moved up 8.4% to Rs 173.
Larsen & Toubro advanced 7.5% to Rs 2,767, and Tata Steel added 6.8% to Rs 667.
Tata Motors rallied over 6% to Rs 438. Reliance advanced over 5% to Rs 2,266.
Bharti Airtel and ACC were up 4.7% each at Rs 816 and Rs 591, respectively.

Cipla slipped 2.2% to Rs 233. Hindustan Unilever was the only other loser at Rs 231.

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 140 points at 15,082, and soon touched a high of 15,130. However, profit-taking at higher levels forced the index slip into the negative zone.
Significant weakness in metal and technology stocks saw the index drop to a low of 14,608 - down 522 points from the day's high. The Sensex recovered some ground towards the close and finally ended with a loss of 165 points at 14,777, thereby breaking its five-day winning streak wherein the index had surged nearly 19%.
The market breadth was negative - out of 2,783 stocks traded, 1,454 declined, 1,262 advanced and 67 were unchanged today.
The NSE Nifty slipped 43 points to close at 4,434.
INDEX SHAKERS...
TCS slumped 6.5% to Rs 803. Tata Steel plunged 5.5% to Rs 631, and ACC tumbled over 5% to Rs 561.
Reliance Communications shed 4.5% at Rs 502. SBI dropped 4.3% to Rs 1,478.
BHEL slipped 2.7% to Rs 1,724. NTPC and Infosys declined around 2.5% each to Rs 185 and Rs 1,565, respectively.

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 98 points at 14, 373 on positive cues from the global markets.
The 30-share index, which lost nearly 667 points in the past two sessions, recovered today. Saturday's serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad failed to have any immediate impact on the trading sentiments.
The index moved in a range of 202 points between 14,219 (low) and 14,421 (high) before finally settling with a gain of 74 points at 14,349.
The Nifty ended with a gain of 20 points at 4332.
The market breadth was positive - out of 2689 stocks traded 1767 advanced, 845 declined and 77 were unchanged today.
THE MOVERS
L&T and Tata Power were up 3.7% each at Rs 2,723 and Rs 1,051, respectively. ACC advanced 3.3% at Rs 593. ONGC gained 3% at Rs 1,012. Ranbaxy was up 2.6% at Rs 493.Reliance Communicatons and DLF gained 1.8% each at Rs 512 and Rs 499, respectively.
Reliance Industries was up 1.5% at Rs 2,179. TCS and ICICI Bank advanced 1% each at Rs 806 and Rs 663, respectively.
ITC, Wipro and Reliance Infrastructure were the other gainers.

Sterlite plunged 3.5% to Rs 582. Tata Steel and Hindalco tumbled 2.2% each to Rs 604 and Rs 146, respectively.
SBI and Mahindra and Mahindra declined around 2% to Rs 1,418 and Rs 529, respectively.
NTPC and Grasim Industries lost 1.4% each at Rs 184 and Rs 1,817. Jaiprakash Associates was down 1% at Rs 161.
Infosys, Maruti, HUL, Satyam, BHEL and Tata Motors were the other losers.
Hindalco and M&M have lost 1.6% at Rs 147 and Rs 531 respectively. NTPC, Jaiprakash Associates, HUL, Grasim and Infosys and Bhel are the other losers.

The Sensex opened 62 points lower at 14,595 amid subdued cues from the global markets. The index rebounded and moved up to a high of 14,726 before slipping back into the negative zone to a low of 14,504 - down 222 points from the day's high.
The index gyrated between zones for most part of the trading day today and finally ended with a loss of 79 points at 14,578.
The market breadth was extremely positive - out of 2,719 stocks traded, 1,845 advanced, and 806 declined today.
The NSE Nifty moved in a range of 73 points before settling with a loss of 18 points at 4,395.
INDEX MOVERS...
Grasim surged over 3% to Rs 1,895. Ranbaxy moved up 2.8% to Rs 524.
Jaiprakash Associates gained 2.4% at Rs 175, and Maruti rallied 2% to Rs 572.
Tata Steel and ACC advanced 1.6% each to Rs 692 and Rs 586, respectively.
Satyam, Hindalco and Infosys were up around 1% each at Rs 396, Rs 142 and Rs 1,656, respectively.

TCS dropped 2.7% to Rs 816. Reliance and BHEL shed almost 2.5% each at Rs 2,243 and Rs 1,714, respectively.

Sensex ends up 383pts; banking, realty stocks surge
The Sensex opened marginally (15 points) lower at 14,563 and moved down by 42 points in early trade today on small selling activity in banking and metal stocks. The trading sentiment turned sluggish following reports of a weak trend in global markets.
The index gyrated between zones till mid-noon trades wherein the index touched a low of 14,529. Aggressive buying on the back of further drop in crude oil prices saw the index rally sharply in late noon trades. The US crude oil dropped to a low of $118 per barrel in Asian trades today.
Banking, cement, realty and capital goods stocks led the rally as the Sensex surged to a high of 14,987 - up 458 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally ended with a gain of 383 points at 14,961.
The BSE Bankex rallied 6.7% (450 points) to 7,218, and the Realty index surged 6.6% (343 points) to 5,575. The Auto index advanced over 4% (151 points) to 3,819. The BSE Metal index, however, slipped 1.9% (259 points) to 13,265.
The market breadth was fairly positive - out of 2,767 stocks traded, 1,786 advanced, 921 declined and 60 were unchanged today.
The NSE Nifty settled above the 4,500-mark at 4,503 - up 108 points.
BIG MOVERS...
ICICI Bank zoomed over 8% to Rs 693. HDFC Bank rallied nearly 7% to Rs 1,184, and SBI added 4.6% to Rs 1,579.
DLF soared 7.7% to Rs 553. Jaiprakash Associates surged 6% to Rs 185, and Reliance Infrastructure advanced over 4% to Rs 1,043.
Maruti rallied 7.4% to Rs 614. Mahindra & Mahindra gained 5.5% at Rs 548, and Tata Motors was up 3.2% at Rs 409.
Grasim surged 6.5% to Rs 2,019. ACC spurted over 5% to Rs 616.
NTPC, Wipro and HDFC moved up around 4% each to Rs 182, Rs 448 and Rs 2,465, respectively.
BHEL and Bharti Airtel rallied around 3% each to Rs 1,770 and Rs 840, respectively.
Hindustan Unilever gained 2.5% at Rs 240. ONGC advanced over 2% to Rs 1,002.
TCS and Larsen & Toubro advanced 1.7% each to Rs 831 and Rs 2,699, respectively. Reliance added 1.5% to Rs 2,276.
Infosys, ITC and Satyam were up over 1% each at Rs 1,677, Rs 190 and Rs 400, respectively.
